18. Fairtrade floor cushions from Blackout in Brighton
Picked by Rachel Holland, Eco Designer, La Luminata
“What I would really like for Christmas 2009 is a gift that reflects my home, which is my favourite place to be,” says Rachel Holland. “I have chosen my dream gift as this gorgeous set of floor cushions from my favourite giftshop in Brighton: Blackout. The shop has Fairtrade values and has been focusing on travel and trade for the last 18 years to create unusual, one-of-a-kind pieces, made by crafts people in underdeveloped countries. The pieces really reflect their colourful origins and just brighten up the dullest of spaces. The staff are also absolutely wonderful in this shop and I always enjoy the atmosphere, it really is a place to go in Brighton.”

“I love lolling around, reading a book, listening to music and taking time for myself when I’m not busy working, so I would adore being given these long lounging floor cushions which could be moved anywhere in the house to create my own little sanctuary space. I might even be tempted to take this to the park or the beach in the Summer time for some ultra-comfy relaxing.”
