Access all areas: Backstage at Aveda Ethical Fashion Show

February 12, 2009 by Yanar Alkayat

While guests sipped organic wine and got stuck in to canapes at the Aveda Ethical Fashion Show last night in London, I nipped backstage to catch the kind of commotion worth giving up your front row seat for…

As models flounced around half dressed but dazzling, make-up artists and hair stylists were still seriously immersed in their creative endeavours. All I could see were waves and heights of crimped, brushed-out hair, backcombed bouffants and dark, inky eyelids. The brief? Big and gothic.

“We wanted lots of texture, lots of frizz and lots of crimping,” says one stylist as she tweezes lengths of hair into the two biggest bunches I’ve ever seen. “I used a few hair extensions but no product. Maybe a little hairspray but just crimping and pinning.”
