Vintage pair of 1930s Black Brogues
Hang up your ballerina flats and make way for the beautiful brogue shoe. The female variants of the traditional men’s loafer have caused somewhat of a shoe revolution in the world of fashion, and eBay is awash with options. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
Slick, polished, narrow and delicately patterned tastes have shaped the 2009/10 women’s brogue, which come in a host of colours, from black and purple to red and white and in a choice of materials, including patent leather and suede. This exceptional pair of 1930s vintage brogues has a mischievous charm and elegance about it thanks to the small but perfectly formed kitten heel.
Originally made for an American Countess in the 1930s, these brogues are in fabulous condition and even pre-empt a Paul Smith vibe as seen at his S/S10 shows, which he teamed with wide legged shorts.
To nail that cheeky androgynous look opt for grey pop socks and a short dress, with a vintage Mulberry satchel thrown in for good measure.
The auction ends 03/12/09 so there’s still time to mix a bit of 1930s country with a bit of noughties glam. Bidding begins at £26

Floral Bow Headband
This adorable bow headband has a cute baby doll 1950s theme written all over it. Next season expect to see the dawn of a massive headband trend with Louis Vuitton’s elevated bunny eared variety leading the way. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
Luella’s SS10 catwalk showed an array of PVC pastel coloured bows – much in the same vein as this gorgeous vintage version.
Handmade by this eBay seller, the headband is made from vintage fabrics and each creation is one of a kind.
Bidding starts at a very respectable £8 and ends on 28th November.

Vintage 80s Cocktail Party Dress
Metallic glamour is rocking the catwalks this season in the form of sprayed on leggings at Armani Exchange, explosions of shine and shimmer on Anya Hindmarch and Moschino handbags and Jimmy Choo’s new mysterious metallic python snake platforms. This fabulous prom style dress is dripping in 1980s puff-ball frivolity and echoes the metallic trend we are seeing at the moment. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
The top half of the dress is plain black with batwing sleeves and dainty little shoulder pads while the bottom half flows into a striking skirt with large metal and silver roses on. This gives it instant rock chic kudos, yet still allows it to be pretty and demure. Made for a size 16 but fits the seller perfectly who is a size 10-12 because the cut is meant to be loose, hence why an attractive black sash is included to be worn around the waist or hips. A military biker leather jacket as seen at Sienna and Savannah Miller’s label Twenty8Twelve would work fantastically with this dress with either ankle boots or sky high platforms.
Auction ends 29/11/09 and the starting bid is an astonishing £3.99.

Iconic pieces showcased at the RE:Fashion Awards 2008 and designed by the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes, will be on display today at the Ethical Fashion Forum’s first and only international ethical sourcing marketplace. Many Barder writes.
The two day long event will welcome a variety of designers, retailers, buyers and entrepreneurs alike who are passionate about producing and stocking sustainable fashion designs.
One of the major highlights at the marketplace will be a viewing of the iconic pieces that were showcased at the Re: Fashion Awards 2008, and modelled by the likes of Leah Weller, Daisy Lowe, Leah Woods and Pixie Geldof.
Also exhibiting at the event is the SEWA (Self-Employed Women’s Association) from Gujarat in India who teamed up with ethical label Ascension earlier this year.
Ascension’s Ethical Consultant Clare Lissman and designer Sury Bagenal visited Gujarat last year and witnessed first hand the exceptional work that the 70,000 women workers do. Traditional embroidery is a big part of their designs, which are all handmade and passed down through generations. SEWA’s initiative has really helped to develop and improve the lives of the women involved.
Run in partnership with internationally recognised operations and ethical experts, such as the World Fair Trade Organisation and the Fairtrade Foundation, the Global Sourcing Marketplace was born from a vision to provide opportunities for fashion professionals. The goals are to promote sustainable fashion, support fairtrade and ultimately reduce the fashion industry’s negative effect on the environment.
The Global Sourcing Marketplace is a non-profit making event and all proceeds will go to sustainable and fairtrade practices in the fashion industry.
