Blooming beautiful – it’s Libertorre
September 29, 2008 by greenmystyle
Beautiful, feminine and ethical, Libertorre is a new collection to watch. We discovered this clever and beautiful range just this week, after meeting Libertorre founder and designer Hannah Housman.
Hannah, an artist and fashion designer, has totally embraced the principles of slow fashion. She celebrates the entire lifecycle of her items, from the fibres that become the garments through the making, discovery and finally the wearing of each item. Each step is to be savoured, and as a result the experience of owning and wearing such beautiful handcrafted clothes is enhanced.
I was fascinated especially to hear about the ayurvedic qualities of Hannah’s amaiyah range of chic loungewear. The 100% silk range of shorts, bloomers (pictured here) and pyjamas is infused with ayurvedic plant extracts known to have a beneficial effect on your skin and enhance wellbeing.
Hannah writes: “What makes amaiyah so unusual is the material we use to create the clothes, inspired by the ancient indian principle of ayurveda. The fabric is dyed with organic ayurvedic herbal dyes specifically composed to have a variety of restorative and healing properties which, when brought into contact with skin, can have a beneficial effect on the body. The fabric is woven, dyed and tailored by a co-operative of artisans in india with whom we have a fair and trusted relationship.”
The lead grey and green gold fabrics enhance general wellbeing, deep indigo promotes skin conditioning and blood purity, while the molten gold has antibacterial qualities. You really must visit Hannah’s website to see these glorious colours.
Ayurvedic extracts aside, this range is too gorgeous to keep indoors, and a definite entry on stylish Christmas present lists. Prices range from £45 for shorts going up to £285 for a kimono.
For the main Libertorre range, Hannah works with vintage recycled fabrics and organic cotton to create unique items on a bespoke basis.
