Hennes

Hennes

This was the most impressive of all the mainstream high street stores I visited. The store was packed but the shop assistant made time to help me find their ethical items. On offer were various organic cotton t-shirts and shirts, starting at £7, a few of which I might have tried if the changing rooms hadn’t been full. The assistant was also excited to tell me about their recycled wool trousers and skirts, pictured here. All ethical items carry swing tags to mark them as such. I can’t help but feel it would have been much easier, for me at least, if these items were displayed in one place, like organic food used to be in supermarkets. I’m more likely to buy it if I can find it easily.

I have to point out here that this is a contentious issue – is it better for the organics/fair trade/recycled items to all be in one place for easy access, or for it to be intergrated with the rest so that they are come across as the other clothes are? I’d be tempted to go for the former but I can’t help feeling that for the vast majority who do not specifically look for ethical items the latter would be much more suited….
