Celebrities donate shoes in aid of Macmillan charity

November 3, 2009 by Maria Kaski

Celebrity shoes, set to be auctioned at the ‘In Their Shoes’ ball later this month, will be on display at London’s Burlington Arcade from November 10th. Shoes belonging to Cindy Crawford, Kevin Spacey, Denise Van Outen and Christian Louboutin have been donated in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Lucie Goulet writes.
Kate Durman, Macmillan Press Officer, said, “the theme ‘In their shoes’ is about taking guests on a journey in the shoes of the people who benefit from the money raised at the event.”
Ashes hero cricketer Andrew Strauss has given his winning footwear while Rod Stewart offered a pair of signed golden trainers, and Kylie donated sequined Moschino sandals.
A historical shopping arcade in the heart of London, Burlington was chosen because, as Durman says, it offers “a great place to showcase the shoes before the annual ball and provide the public with the chance to go along and take a look.”
The Annual Macmillan Ball is a key fundraising event for Macmillan. The accompanying auction however is a new manifestation.
The ball will take place on Novmber 19th at the Intercontinental London Park Lane. Tickets, priced £150 each, include a three-meal course.
Last year, the ball raised £150,000 for the charity.
