Daily eBay – 1960s Kaiser desk lamp for instant style

January 23, 2009 by Sarah Woodhead

If I had it my way, my home would be packed with lamps and chairs. I love them! I get that same buzzy feeling looking at lamps and chairs that other women get looking at shoes. I get it for shoes too, of course. Today’s daily eBay – this 1960s Kaiser desk lamp – is giving me serious buzziness.

I love this eBay seller. Just for fun, can you guess his profession from the way he writes? Give him his dues, he takes great pictures, writes well, and has good taste. It’s a Daily eBay match made in heaven. A few words from him about my new lamp crush:

“You are bidding on an original large 1960s Kaiser desk lamp. The lampshade is made of sheet metal lacquered charcoal grey. The inside of the lampshade has been lacquered white for light reflection.

“There is a decorative nickel plated metallic cylinder placed on top of the lampshade and housing the bulb casing. The heavy base is made of cast iron with a sheet metal cover lacquered charcoal grey. The stem is made of two nickel plated metal rods joined together by a white plastic and nickel plated metal butterfly screw. This allows for adjustment of the angle of the lamp. There is a further ball joint at the top end of the stem to adjust the lampshade. The original switch is placed on top of the nickel plated cylinder. The original Kaiser Leuchten label is still present on the bulb casing and reads:’Kaiser Leuchten 6857/111′.

“The lamp is in good condition. There are a few age related scratches on the lacquer work. The nickel plated work is in good condition but does present with age related marks and blemishes. However none of these interfere with the overall look of the piece. The lamp is in full working order and takes one Edison screw (screwfit) bulb. It has a UK plug. As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advisable to have it checked by a qualified electrician.”

Yep, that’s right, he’s got to be a Mecano toy designer hasn’t he?

Current bid price is a ridiculous 99pence, and bidding ends February 1 at 7.50pm.
