Daily eBay – 1960s sideboard
October 17, 2008 by Sarah Woodhead
Is it just me or does the sight of useful and beautiful cupboards put you in a sorting and storing kind of mood? Today’s Daily eBay has made me come over all efficient and orderly.
It’s this perfect craftsman-made 1960s Danish figured teak sideboard. It’s large, at 211cms long, but check out the interior pics on eBay and swoon at all that storage space!
The seller makes it sound so gorgeous I almost want to date it: “The tambour doors (narrow slats of wood glued to a sheet of cloth to allow them to bend around a corner) are magnificently engineered, and appear to almost vanish into the sides of the piece with a very smooth action; you have to be literally on your hands and knees inches in front to see the joins in the wood as the slats are matched that well.
“Obviously the sideboard was designed to use as a room divider, as the back looks almost as good as the front. The interior features three height adjustable shelves and four boxcomb-jointed sliding shallow drawers, the top two are lined with green baize. I must reassure you that this is a lovely piece of furniture – the photos have not done it justice – buyers will not be disappointed.”
Ah, boxcomb-jointed sliding shallow draws, adjustable shelves…excuse me while I go sort through my old magazines and pair up socks.
The starting bid is 99pence, and bidding ends October 25 at 4.55pm.
