Daily eBay – 1960s/70s Winterling Op Art vases
January 29, 2009 by Sarah Woodhead
News flash: Germany is chucking out its teacups, saucers, plates and vases. Ceramics are banished, earthenware is exiting and pottery is potty to stay.
It’s the only conclusion I can draw from the plethora of German bits and pieces in the 1960s/1970s pottery, porcelain and glass section on eBay today. There’s hundreds. Row upon row of ‘German’ stuff.
Did the Germans have a thing for pottery and ceramics? I thought they were into flares and avant garde theatre like the rest of Europe in the 70s (Noel Edmonds’ Multi-coloured SwapShop was my 70s obsession, not hugely avant garde, granted).
Anyway, it’s good news for Daily eBay fans, because there’s enough to go around, especially if you like Fat Lava pots. I’m not especially a fan. It was these three Winterling vases that caught my eye. I love the Op Art polka dot pattern.
You’ll be disappointed if you’re hoping these are one of those 99 pence listings that no other coolhunter spots. Starting bid is £49.99, and bidding ends February 1 at 8.52pm.
