Daily eBay – Allaboutyou.com Editor picks
November 11, 2008 by Sarah Woodhead
Ok, I admit it, I’m a YGHS (young Good Housekeeping subscriber). What’s not to love? It actually has useful stuff in it about eco gadgets that work, organic food I can actually cook and inspiring women who’ve lived a little. So, it’s a treat to have today’s Daily eBay guest editor, Bernadette Fallon. Bernadette is the editor of allaboutyou.com, the website that draws together the best homes & living tips from Good Housekeeping, as well as sister magazines like Country Living and House Beautiful. True to reliable form, Bernadette has chosen a piece I’d actually have in my house! It’s this John and Sylvia Reid Stag dressing table / desk dating from the 1950s/60s.
Bernadette writes: “These days more than ever we’re all very conscious of getting the best value possible – so I love the idea of furniture that works hard and multi-tasks. This piece could be used either as a desk or a dressing table – and space at a premium in most homes, if you happen to have your home office in a corner of your bedroom, you could use it as both!
“It’s a key time of year to be thinking about storage of course – if you’re doing the Christmas entertaining this year you’ll want to be able to tidy everything away neatly for guests. If you’ve got a spare bedroom that doubles as your home office, a piece like this is ideal, you can tidy away all your papers and other bits of desk-top clutter in the drawers when guests arrive. And it comes with a detachable mirror – so if you are using it as a desk, just re-attach the mirror before your visitors move in to make a handy dressing table for them.
“When we think of practical multi-tasking furniture we often think modern, flat-packed and straight off the factory production line! It’s great to remind ourselves that not only are there great bargains to be had in vintage furniture, these are likely to be just as hard-working as the bland modern purpose-created buys. And, it goes without saying, great retro finds like this will give your interior space way more character.
“This looks to be in lovely condition and I particularly love the chrome feet – a quirky touch that gives this piece of furniture a really individual look.”
It’s a Buy Now item, with a reasonable price of £170.
