Daily eBay – collectable Ulla Procope teapot
May 13, 2009 by greenmystyle
Guest editor Farah, of www.usualshop.co.uk, has tracked down today’s Daily eBay. Farah writes: There are teapots, and then there are minimalist mid-century Scandinavian teapots. This matte-glazed black one is by Ulla Procope for Arabia, a Finnish pottery firm, and is a recognised design classic.
Not only will it not date, it’s an affordable investment which can only rise in value – as long as you keep it whole, that is. I’ve owned a few of these now, including one handed down from my mother, but have accidentally unwound the rather fragile bamboo handles and been too clumsy when washing up. Anyone have a spare lid for the bigger dark brown version?
This is the mid-size model at 15cm tall, and it looks to be in good condition from the photos. Don’t get too excited by the ’1940-1959′ dating, though: whilst it is a mid-’50s design, these teapots remained in production well into the 1970s and were widely available in High Street stores including Habitat, so they’re not in any way rare, and they do still turn up at jumble sales and in charity shops. No need to get carried away with the bidding, then: this is a teapot to use and enjoy, not display in a glass case.
The auction for this one ends at 20.15 on the 19th May, and the highest bid is currently £11.50. The seller’s charging an additional £5 for first class postage within the UK, and says that ‘we always pack with extreme care’.
