Daily eBay – leaping deer anyone?
November 10, 2008 by greenmystyle
It’s a Marmite choice this morning; you’ll either love it or hate it. Fun to find out which, though! And apparently it’s de rigeur to collect these like they were tins of baked beans and Armageddon’s around the corner.
So, yesterday greenmystyle.com headed down on mass to Conscious Style, a day of ethical fashion events at the V&A, including the biggest ever Swish. A highlight of the day was a styling workshop hosted by Elizabeth Laskar, stylist and co-founder of the Ethical Fashion Forum.
Tips Elizabeth shared at the workshop: don’t ever throw away a skirt when you can turn it into a ‘skop’ – a really rather cool skirt turned into top (check out the pictures here later), and collect brooches like your life depends on it. It’s all that gathering and pinning you’re going to do with your skops, you see. No, really. Wait and see.
Not one to pass up a good tip, I was on eBay quicker than it takes to make a skop (Elizabeth did it in about 20 seconds, I kid you not). eBay is a treasure trove for the things. There are thousands! I lost out on the first one I bid for last night – a 1960s yellow Bakelite bicycle brooch, oh gosh I can’t tell you have much i wanted it – but I did also find this lovely, lovely leaping deer brooch.
Now, if flowers and diamante are more your thing, there are tonnes to choose from, but we’re on a quirky tip here and recommend you go for something more stand-out, even if it’s nudging on nutty. Pair of dangly ice-skates anyone?
The leaping deer brooch is plastic, dated roughly 1930s, and measures 3.5″ from nose to hoof. Aww. Current bid price is £14.50 and bidding ends tonight at 8.42pm.
