Daily eBay – Sixties G-Plan room divider
March 26, 2009 by Sarah Woodhead
A room divider is like a fourth child, it tells other people that you’re really quite rich. You can only have a room divider or a fourth child if you have a house big enough to contain it. There’s not much to divide in a Balham basement shoebox.
But we say don’t let a small thing like lack of space put you off, because you can always put it against a feature wall. Today’s Daily eBay, this Sixties G-Plan mahogany room divider, designed by Ebenizer Gomme, and he’s not a character in a Charles Dickens novel. Gomme designed a modular system where units could be fixed together. Clever man. Bet he’d have loved Meccano and Rubik’s Cubes.
This model has a storage cupboard below with sliding doors and a single shelf, a bureau unit above with a fold-down flap providing a writing surface and storage.
It’s a nice piece, though if you buy it promise us you won’t destroy it with crocheted doilies or china cat figurines. Or shepherds whispering into the ear of blushing shepherdesses. Or any of those god awful lovers carved out of soapstone figurines. Any hint of that and we’ll forcibly remove it from your too small home ourselves.
This G-Plan room divider has a Buy It Now price of £265, though we reckon you could probably haggle. Just don’t tell them you have four kids and live in a Maida Vale mansion.
