Daily eBay – Sixties melamine teacup set

April 20, 2009 by Sarah Woodhead

What a lovely day I had in Whitstaple this Saturday. It’s invigorating to be by the seaside within two hours travel from London, especially when the sky is blue and the sun is gently warming. It was, well, a blissful day.

Whitstaple is fantastic for charity shops – I came home with a boyfriend blazer for £6, my chap came home with another book – and I also enjoyed a seafront vintage shop (is it called Flirty Pretty Things?) and it’s neighbouring secondhand furniture shop. Even the local children were into the re-use and recycling vibe, with one family and friends hosting a very reasonable ‘Every item 10p – proceeds to Oxfam’ children’s toy sale on the beach.

Anyway, today’s daily eBay. Whitstaple is great for many things, not least of all oysters and seaside huts. These aren’t any old huts but ultra chic mini-homes by the sea. The ones we peaked into shamelessly were immaculately kitted out, with reclaimed bits and pieces and homely accoutrements. It’s kind of posh camping, and definitely inspired me to get started with this year’s outdoor living season.

And, of course, chic outdoor living requires chic outdoorsy bits and pieces that can be used and reused for decades – don’t you remember the picnic sets from your childhood? Finally, to the point of today’s Daily eBay. Designer Vic Tristram, a woman with a keen eye for a stylish piece and a real bargain-lover, has found this set of four Sixties melamine tea cups and saucers.

They are sky blue with white interiors and are in immaculate condition. The melamine means that they are durable, transportable and great for outdoor use. Grab that flask of tea and go!

Current bid price is £3.60 and bidding ends April 26 at 9.46pm.
