Daily eBay – Vintage cream trench

October 9, 2009 by Maria Kaski

Vintage Macintosh cream coat
As the autumnal weather creeps in, it’s time to update our wardrobes for the chilly seasons to come. First on the list: a lightweight vintage trench coat to ease into autumn/winter, stay ahead of the masculine tailoring trend and stay dry in the wet weather to come. Amiee Jones picks today’s Daily eBay.
The single breast closure on this coat is a simpler, less fussy alternative to the classic double breasted trench. It’s reminiscent of 1940’s  starlets, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn, who used androgynous dressing to stand out amongst the more traditionally feminine garments of the time.  It also wouldn’t look out of place on one of Alfred Hitchcock’s screen heroines.
Wear open and layer different lengths underneath to build depth into an outfit. If you are set on an hourglass silhouette, button it up and belt it in to give it more shape. If you want to add some more interest to the coat, you can always simply change the buttons yourself for something in a bright colour for contrast, or swap its gold ones for silver.
A classic coat that will look just as appropriate over jeans as it will a cocktail dress. You’d be hard pushed to find a more versatile piece of outerwear.
A size 14, you can ‘buy it now’ for £37.95 or submit an offer for the sellers consideration.
