Daily eBay – vintage Scandinavian glassware
May 27, 2009 by greenmystyle
Daily eBay guest editor Farah, of www.usualshop.co.uk, writes: I’ve collected Scandinavian glassware for years, and have taken rather a fancy to this vintage set made in Hovmantorp, southern Sweden, a renowned glass-making town. It would be perfect for sharing a jug of elderflower cordial or cool gin ‘n’ tonic on a warm summer’s evening in the garden with a few friends. An interesting shade of purplish blue, it would look good in a display cabinet, but would be a shame not to actually use it for the purpose intended.
The seller says that this set, a hand-me-down from a grandmother, has been stored in a cupboard for 30 years and is in mint, unused condition. It definitely looks post-war to me, probably late 1960s or ‘70s based on my memories of items I’ve owned, loved and broken, though the seller is claiming ‘30s or ‘40s. There are also a lot of similar-looking later reproductions of these designs, so do some research before spending too much.
The jug is 26cm tall and the four matching glasses 14cm – so no swigging pints of cocktails from these, then – and they’ll cost £6 to be posted from Hull. Bidding ends at 17.00 on the 31st May, and the starting price is £5.
