Don’t kick the handbag habit yet!
September 12, 2008 by greenmystyle
On your list of guilty pleasures collecting handbags comes pretty near the top, yes? Me too. How great then to discover that this indulgence is one we don’t have to give up on just yet.
Vivien Cheng handpaints beautiful and complementary designs onto vintage handbags, giving them a second and often more glorious life than their first. It’s recycling in a gorgeous way.
Working out of London, Cheng takes clutches, handbags and oversize handbags and applies her delicate hand to creating birds, modern florals and colourful plumes, all using waterbased paints for extra eco credentials. The results really are stunning, and every single bag is unique.
Vivien Cheng’s designs are currently available to buy online on Etsy and Fashion-Conscience.com, or on the high street from Something, 58 Lamb’s Conduit St, London, or The Red Door Gallery, 42 Victoria St, Edinburgh.
Prices are in the region of £120-£140 depending on the design. The Plume Clutch handbag pictured here, currently for sale on Fashion-Conscience.com is £124.

I think Vivien’s bags are excellent examples of uber cool innovation. The painting style is really unique — reminds me of dragonflies’ wings, ancient Egyptian art and Art Deco all rolled into one.
