Daniel Field is offering greenmystyle.com readers an exclusive and rather whopping 50% discount off his new Purity Project range. Find out more in our expert Q&A with Daniel, plus how to claim your discount.

Here at greenmystyle.com most of us were in nappies when Daniel started to formulate his leading range of Organic and Mineral Hair Care thirty years ago. Fair to say he’s had a head start (no pun intended) when it comes to devising hair and beauty products that are kind to us and kind to the environment too.

Daniel has recently launched The Purity Project, an umbrella project that will see the launch of a number of different natural beauty ranges, intended to be amongst the purest and safest in the world. First out is The Face Range, made up of seven frequently-used products that encompass both anti-ageing and daily face care. The products range in price from £12 for a face wash to £20 for anti-ageing moisturisers.

Exclusive offer – For the whole of December greenmystyle.com readers can claim 50% off when spending over £25 on products from The Purity Project. To take advantage of this fantastic offer simply visit www.purity-project.com and use code: GREENMYSTYLE50  at the checkout.

greenmystyle: Phew, Daniel, you’ve got pretty substantial eco-creds – pioneering ethical haircare, The Ark Environmental Foundation, The Prevent Cancer Network, and now The Purity Project. What drives you to keep pushing green beauty?
Daniel: Well, I suppose I’m the kind of person who commits to playing a part in the changes I want to see. I enjoy living a healthy lifestyle and I want others to have the ability to make an informed choice. I started out as a hairdresser and was appalled by how unhealthy our salon environment was, especially the harsh chemical products.

After starting Organic and Mineral Hairdressing  it soon dawned on me that the entire consumer society was unsustainable in the long-term and unhealthy for all, which led to The Ark Environmental Foundation.

The Purity Project is a pioneering concept to provide the first certified toxin-free personal care products in Europe.

greenmystyle: There are a lot of natural, organic and cruelty-free products already on the market. Why did you see a need for The Face Range?
Daniel: I felt the need to start The Purity Project because I could see that the trend towards using more natural ingredients in products was not producing products that were necessarily safer or less allergenic or irritant to the skin.
In fact recent research at Safecosmetics.org shows that so called, organic and natural products contain the same level of harmful toxins as standard formulations that do not make natural claims.

greenmystyle: The range has quite a focus on anti-ageing products. Is there really a wonder ingredient to keep us looking young?
Daniel: Anti-ageing products mostly contain ingredients that prevent photo ageing, the number one cause of premature ageing. Cosmetic benefits from anti-ageing products, skin treatments, can create a more youthful, healthy or attractive skin appearance that people value.

Repairing skin cell damage, as in turning back time comes down to few ingredients of interest and we at The Purity Project are heavily  involved in this sort of research, whilst ensuring those ingredients we are interested in studying are non-toxic.

greenmystyle: How do these products compete with big name beauty brands which may have millions of dollars worth of testing & manufacturing behind their products?
Daniel: The Purity Project is headed by me but each range has its own team of dedicated research chemists. The project is well backed financially and no expense is spared in research and development.

The testing process for each new formulation involves 1000 people over one year per formulation, so you can see we are rigorous in both safety and performance.

greenmystyle: What products do we need to stop using on our skin right now?
Daniel: 90% of all personal care products are considered unsafe. Go to Safecosmetics.org where the Skin Deep Campaign for Safe Cosmetics provides all you need to know about just how unsafe personal care products really are.

greenmystyle: We’re inspired – how can we find out more?
Daniel: A new UK-based organisation that is is about to launch in January 2009 called Safe Cosmetics UK www.safecosmetics.org.uk will be providing verified, peer reviewed, health information about European Personal Care safety issues to both the public and health writers.

The Face Range is available exclusively online at Purity-project.com or via Personal Care Advisors on 0203 006 1313 (9am–10pm, 7 days a week)
