Do your bit for Fairtrade Fortnight – shop!
February 10, 2009 by Clare Saxon
If you want to be a part of Fairtrade Fortnight you can start by pouring yourself a big glass of South African red wine. And take a piece of Divine dark chocolate while you’re there. Being Fairtrade is easy, fun and stylish when you know how.
From February 23 to March 8 is Fairtrade Fortnight, a couple of weeks in which awareness will be raised about where everything we consume comes from and who makes it.
Fairtrade can easily become one of those labels that we don’t really pay much attention to. But at the core of Fairtrade is a proactive and passionate movement who want to see farmers and their families benefit from fair payment for their goods.
EthicalSuperstore.com has some great ideas for doing your bit for the Fairtrade Fortnight, including holding a coffee morning, a fete, a breakfast event, fashion show or book club using only Fairtrade products. While we love all of these ideas, we’d much rather do what we do best: shop.
But before you say it, Fairtrade doesn’t just cover bananas and coffee. Although they are the most common, there are actually over 3000 products listed as Fairtrade from pants to beer and beauty products.
Fairtrade goods are available everywhere, you just have to look out for the famous black, green and blue logo. EthicalSuperstore.com has made it all seem easy with its range of Fairtrade goodies on offer. Here’s our pick of top treats that are totally Fairtrade and absolutey gorgeous.
Pictured above being worn by model of the moment Irina Lazareanu is a T-shirt designed by Luella Bartley exclusively for the Environmental Justice Network. The tee is ethically made with 100% organic cotton and the printing is certified by the Soil Association. It is priced at £30 which is a bargain for a piece of Luella. Check out John Rocha, Zandra Rhodes and Betty Jackson’s versions too.
On the right is Thandi Merlot Cabernet, £6.12. The word Thandi is actually Xhosa for ‘nurturing love’ so it could be a romantic gift for you and your loved one.
Keep clicking for more products you wouldn’t think you’d be able to buy Fairtrade.
