Get Lily Cole’s lashes with professional makeup artists’ eco applicators

March 24, 2009 by Clare Saxon

Lily Cole always looks polished to perfection so when we heard one of her backstage beauty secrets we were very pleased to find out that it was an eco one; single-use makeup tools made from bamboo. With top makeup artists using single-use applicators to prevent nasty infections spreading among the models it is about time there was a more renewable alternative. The gorgeously green Lily could still win that ongoing Re:Fashion most ethical supermodel award yet.

TheProMakeupShop.com has just been launched and we’re getting excited by the high quality makeup tools that professional makeup artists will undoubtedly be using thanks to the careful designs and thoughtful ethos behind the company which aims to change the face of the beauty industry.

At first glance though, it doesn’t seem all that ethical as the focus is on products that can be used once to be thrown away afterwards. But this is in the name of good health, as on the website it states, ‘The heart of our business is to provide a wide range of professional quality single-use makeup accessories to help reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.’ So throwing away used items may be ethical in terms of protecting our health, but what about the environment?

The company says it is concerned about the future of the earth and knows the ‘importance of recycling and obtaining products from sustainable resources’, which is why it has brought out the eco range of single-use makeup tools.

The lip and eye applicators are made from bamboo which as you probably know if a highly renewable material. The bamboo products were used on Lily Cole at London Fashion Week, and Lily is certainly one supermodel who has voiced her eco opinions from the start. You can read more about the tools and buy them at TheProMakeupShop.com.

Surely though if one is to be truly eco, whether or not Lily’s eyes depend on it, makeup accessories should be kept for personal use and reused for as long as possible. But seeing as the professional makeup artists use single-use applicators already to prevent infections and keep supermodels like Lily looking catwalk beautiful, it is forward thinking that TheProMakeupShop have created these environmentally friendly versions.

In my experience, good make up tools make a big difference w/ application! I’ve recently fallen in love with ECO-tools line of brushes. They’re so soft and apply really naturally. I even came across a blog that’s giving them away for Earth Day :) http://shoptherapy.pronto.com/pronto-beauty/earth-month-giveaway-eco-tools/
