Make it a vintage Christmas!
November 17, 2008 by greenmystyle
Have yourself a merry secondhand and vintage Christmas this year. It’s a great ethical and credit-crunch option, writes Lucy Pavia. Here’s how.
My mother announced last weekend that we’re not going to ‘do’ presents this year, as if this is some sort of Christmas ritual that is entirely expendable, like vol-au-vents, or Great Aunt Valerie.
But after the glum vision of a Christmas morning sans stocking, I have decided to suggest a compromise. We’re going to go eco.
There are a variety of ways to be a little greener when you Christmas shop this year, none of which destroy the fun of giving or receiving. In fact, you might enjoy the challenge even more.
eBbay already provides a January cash flow for those wishing to sell foul jumpers or weird kitchen accessories unwrapped with fake coos on Christmas morning. So why not begin the Christmas gift shenanigans there too?
Secondhand is eco-friendly, and you’re more likely to find something special. My best-friend met her boyfriend in India, and for their second Christmas together, she found him a map of the Himalayas from 1670 on eBay. Not something she would have picked up in the Argos catalogue!
So have a browse and you might be surprised. And don’t forget to check out Daily eBay, right here on greenmystyle.com. Let stylish folk do your vintage Christmas shopping for you.
