Handbag editor picks Zandra Rhodes dress
November 28, 2008 by greenmystyle
It’s this silk Zandra Rhodes dress, and it’s not just Kate Moss that would love it. With her unique and usually flouro-coloured spin on textile and fashion design, Zandra Rhodes is absolutely due a revival amongst Eighties crazed fashion students right now, just you wait.
In fact, I bet this gorgeous thing (you really do have to see the other pictures on eBay too) turns up on some cool young intern on the fashion desk at handbag.com before long.
Debbie writes: “I’ve fallen in love with this vintage 1980s Zandra Rhodes dress! The print is subtle, the fabric gorgeous and you will be owning a little bit of fashion history here; don’t forget Zandra Rhodes’ pieces are not just collectable but are to be seen in museums around the world.
“Team it with leggings and sky-high heels for evening (grabbing a sparkly clutch bag to complete the look), or boots, thick tights and a long fluffy boa or alpaca scarf for maximum impact – think queens of vintage Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.”
The dress is a size 10, the seller says it was bought for her (or him!) in 1985 and it’s been worn twice (why only twice?). It has a plunging neck-line embellished with pearls on the outside and small pearls on the inside. Pearls also adorn the hem which curves round to the lower hip, finished with a rose of silk and pearls and a tear drop pearl. Some of the pearls need securing, but otherwise it’s in good shape for a twentysomething-year-old.
The sleeves are 3/4 length with a rossette pearl detail on the shoulder. It’s almost a bit too much, in a good way.
Current bid price is £120, and bidding ends November 30.
