Hot ticket: London Fashion Week master innovator Mark Liu

A pioneer in the art of zero waste fashion, revolutionary designer Mark Liu creates clothes where waste is designed out of the garment from the beginning of the process. So, where there is normally fabric waste of around 15%, Liu ensures his clothes waste nothing and still look incredible.

“I love a challenge and am obsessed about creating something original,” Liu told us. “So the allure of eco and ethical fashion is understandably desirable.”

Liu, a hot ticket at London Fashion Week, will be exhibiting his new Autumn Winter 09/10 collection, Singularity Point, as part of Estethica, the ethical fashion zone.

“My upcoming collection is about a moment in time when a system becomes self-aware of its own limitations and eventually rewrites its own rules to take control of its destiny,” he explains. “I have applied this principal to the fashion system to make environmentally friendly changes. Some of the changes were so dramatic that most of the garments in the collection were constructed without even using a sewing machine.”

Having previously worked for designers such as Alexander McQueen and Ghost, Liu is now proving that eco-sustainability and high fashion can go hand-in-hand together. His elegant designs will leave any woman who is lucky enough to slip one on feeling divine – both on the outside and on the inside, with a completely clear conscience.

Liu’s latest collection also explores environmentally-conscious printing with organic fabrics and new water-based pigments. “I am really excited about this new collection,” he says. As are we Mark, as are we.
