jigsaw-jacketHigh-street chain Jigsaw is launching a capsule organic tweed collection supporting the Soil Association on September 5th. Comprised of a jacket, coat, trilby and mini-skirt, the line will be Jigsaw’s first foray into organic clothing. Lucie Goulet writes.

Jigsaw will be selling the collection exclusively during the two weeks of Organic Fortnight, an event organised by the Soil Association that runs from 5th – 20th September. The Organic Fortnights is “a nationwide campaign highlighting all the great things about organic,” and during those two weeks, Jigsaw will offer free membership to customers buying organic tweed garments and subsidise joining up fees for all other customers. The chain will also publicise the Soil Association with themed window displays and a giveaway of “Love your planet, Choose organic” canvas bags. jigsaw-skirt

Organic products are key for John Robinson, Jigsaw founder and an organic farmer himself. Last November, the chain launched a beauty line named “Jigsaw Organics” which included bath and beauty products.

Urban tweeds are one of the key trends for autumn/winter 09. Whether it was as a classic belted coat at Gucci or as a tailored dress at Burberry Prorsum, tweed was the star versatile material of the runways. Jigsaw’s tweeds were made using certified organic wool from the Ardalanaish farm in Scotland.

The Soil Association is the organisation of reference for organic certification. Founded right after the end of World War II, the charity drew up the first organic standards in the world 30 years ago. The distinctive Soil Association logo can be found on nearly 80% of organic products in Britain.
