Profile: Hot new ethical designer Kate Tailyour

January 14, 2009 by Clare Saxon

This Spring watch out for young British designer Kate Tailyour who will be causing whispers along the front rows with her fairtrade cotton and organic silk garments. Expect petal-soft puffy grey shirts, sharply structured summer dresses and draped combinations of sophisticated prints and fabrics.

Kate Tailyour’s unique designs and her creative style show her fashion-forward take on ethical clothing needn’t be drab. There is plenty of fairtrade cotton and fairtrade and opulent organic silk from Nepal. All clothes are made in the UK though, so Kate maintains a low carbon footprint.

The range focuses on separates, with sporty details and curious fabric materials that explore Kate’s creative and ethical flair. We are very tempted to a mid-January shopping splurge in Kate Tailyour’s online store.

You might recognise the model above as the winner of Britain’s Next Top Model, Alex Evans, who brings her own London style to the designs. With such a high profile model on the case you can tell Kate is set for big things.

On top of all her great pieces and supermodel pals, other things are going pretty well for Kate at the moment. She is one of only six people to be shortlisted for the first ever UK Young Fashion Entrepreneur Award, which draws attention to Britain’s creative industry. The winner will be announced during London Fashion Week which takes place in February. She definitely has our vote!
