La Luminata and Goodone shoot sexy black and white
March 19, 2009 by Clare Saxon
Eco stylist Rachel Holland created this striking monochrome fashion shoot for white hot label Goodone to give a stark fusion of graphic extremities and an ethical fashion moment that is ready to burst.
A crisply constructed panel of white against a smart yet simplified black base drapes seductively across a mass of soft white balloons, primly waiting to be popped. This picture is the perfect result of eco style consultancy La Luminata’s Rachel Holland and photographer Sean Collymore’s creative polar contrasts collaboration which was shot for Esthetica at London Fashion Week.
With a visual kick they twisted tradition and pulled off a black and white photo shoot in full colour. Everything from the hair and make-up to the clothes and set design were in full monochrome glory, to reveal an optical illusion of white hot high glamour.
Rachel created and styled the sensational props along with Brighton based origami-guru Lizzie Thomas. But enough about props. It’s that cheeky Mad Men-esque dress that has got our full attention. Designed exclusively for the shoot by Nin Castle of Goodone, the bespoke dress is made out of completely recycled fabrics. OK, it is a one off so you might not be able to party hard in this exact Gareth Pugh style rag, but there is plenty more of that sort of thing where Goodone come from. On it’s website you can see the whole range of sexy Christoper Kane resonating body-con block colour dresses. I am finding it hard to peel my eyes away from the fierce mini dresses. Snap one up before Agyness Deyn does, followed by everyone else.
Rachel says of the whole shoot, ‘It went very well, it was energetic and everybody pulled together to create the final look. The highlight was getting everybody to help blow up over 70 balloons! It was a real achievement to give the label a unique and powerful image for Esthetica, while still following the aesthetic vision of Nin Castle and also to prove that ethical fashion can be just as inspiring and visionary as other top name designers.’ Through their stinging black and white vision, Rachel Holland and Nin Castle prove that there are no shades of grey in the industry. With such explosive illuminating shoots and collaborations, we’re exceptionally excited for eco fashion too. But then, we always have been.
