Limited edition: Bono and Ali Hewson’s label collaborates with Made-by
February 3, 2010 by George Walker
To celebrate the five year anniversary of Made-by, Bono and Ali Hewson’s ethical clothing label Edun has got together with the sustainable fashion pioneers to release a limited edition line of printed t-shirts. George Walker reveals how this is one limited edition item that you won’t regret buying.
What is it about limited edition things that gets me all excited? When I hear a favourite chocolate bar is going limited edition, I buy a multipack. When I see ‘last chance to buy’ in a shop, I fill my basket. With the new collaboration between Edun and Made-by, however, you can be sure that your limited edition purchase will be money well spent. This isn’t only because you’ll be getting a very stylish t-shirt; you’ll also be helping a great cause.
The ‘RESPECT’ t-shirts cost £27 from Ascension, with €5.00 being donated to the Wildlife Conservation Society for each t-shirt bought. This society promotes the Conservation Cotton Initiative, which helps African farmers shift to organic farming methods while protecting wildlife habitats.
The ‘RESPECT’ design was the result of a competition judged by the likes of Ali Hewson, US eco-model Summer Rayne Oakes and actress Bonnie Wright. The winner of the competition, Dianne Delahunty from South Africa, who now lives in London, said: “I’ve been an Edun fan since its launch and jumped at this opportunity.”
If you’ve forgotten what Made-by is all about then let us remind you: it’s a not-for-profit labelling organisation that works with fashion brands to ensure sustainable fashion practice. The organisation has helped Edun progress its African suppliers in Uganda and Tanzania to offer fair wages and environmentally sound production practices.
So, if you fancy one of these limited edition beauties, snap it up quick. There are styles available for men and women in a range of different colours at Ascension.
