Secondhand Christmas: Modernist Scandi 1960s enamel bowl
December 9, 2008 by Sarah Woodhead
Twentieth Century design lover Tom Burgess picks today’s Daily eBay, which would make a stylish secondhand Christmas present too.
It’s this Catherine Holm enamel Lotus bowl in vibrant orange. It’s a great look-at piece, or a starter item for your new modernist Scandi collection. Come to think of it, it’s a great starter piece for my new modernist Scandi collection too!
Tom, of Collinge Antiques, writes: “This is a really nice enamel bowl from that great Scandinavian school of 1950s-1960s design. It’s beautiful, stylish, much more durable than plastic and very practical.
“The same vendor had a coffee pot in the same pattern last week but this is much more useful. What do you do with a coffee pot anyway? Make the coffee in something else then decant it into the pot? That’s silly. I’ve never understood – is is something to do with how the way we make coffee has changed – did you make coffee in a pan, then serve it in a pot, or can you make it in a pot?
“Anyway, I would use this bowl every day, if it was mine, and my life would be perfect.”
It’s a tight bidding window on this one, with bids ending at 8.25pm tonight.
