Pearl Lowe chats eco style and weddings!
November 12, 2008 by Lena Weber
Pearl Lowe, former indie singer, fashion model and mother of model of the moment Daisy Lowe, is not only one of the best dressed people we know, she also designs her own ethical fashion line. Read on as Pearl shares her eco style and vintage shopping tips, chats about her wedding and reveals whether Daisy will be wearing one of her designs to the RE:Fashion awards.
Why did you decide to use ethical materials when you started designing?
I have always been quite aware of things like recycling or the carbon footprint, so it just felt natural to use ethical materials such as vintage lace.
It’s also a really small team of people who work with me so it’s all done locally.
Tell us about your designs, what inspires you?
I am really influenced by the 1930s and 40s with a touch of 70s thrown in. To me 30s and 40s dresses are the most flattering, they fit women of all body shapes. For 1950s dresses you need boobs and a waist, a 40s dress will fit anyone.
Where do you get your vintage lace from?
Oh I have many sources! A lot of it is from local markets, antique shops and eBay. I love eBay! My husband [Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey] always jokes that I am the one who keeps them in business.
