Reet Aus, mostly known for her work in ethical fashion, prides herself on producing collections with strong fabrics and feminine cuts that flatter any body shape. We take a look at the designer being touted as the European professional woman’s best friend.
Reet Aus’s Estonian designer, Reet Aus, has been using natural fabrics and upcycling since her first collections, a policy which has proved a hit among eco-fashion seekers.
Launched in 2006, it is the ReUse collection, which is made from old, mass-produced, fast fashion clothes and leftovers, that established the ethos of Reet Aus’s work, and since then it has been the core driving force of the company’s widespread popularity.
“I think it’s in my blood.” Reet told Greenmystyle.com, “I have been reusing and redesigning for as long as I can remember. It might be because of a hard Soviet time, or it might be influenced by my Grandfather who was a sculptor and collected shoes and clothes for Nicaraguan children. Nature has been always important to me.”
Reet Aus’s new collection showcases upcycled denim dresses and shirts which have been made with the active help of the Estonian community who have taken their old clothes to the designer’s studio. The clothes are great for jazzing up your plain work outfits, and their simple shapes make them great for everyday wear.
“The reason I made this collection was to personally solve as much of the textile leftovers problem as I could. I would be very happy to sell it all. It would mean less residue and less load for the environment.”
We love the versatility of the denim dresses but would like to see more colour in the collection.
