Splendidly skilled & stuffed: festive organic cookery courses
November 20, 2009 by Jen Marsden
Perfect for you or for an unforgettable Christmas treat for your loved ones, organic farms and different venues around the country feature special cookery courses for the mystified beginners and the dedicated foodies. Eleni Sardi writes.
Winter is closing in and most of us are in dire need of some change of scenery as the summer holidays seem oh-so-far-away! Say no to the advertising sirens calling you to ski resorts around Europe and warmer climates and opt for travel destinations that won’t add to your carbon footprint but will boost local British economies… and your health!
Whether you are looking for one day courses, a stroll around the farm or a complete package of learning and relaxing in a traditional rural environment, there are plenty of choices for you to choose from. Moan all you want and persuade your better half to join you as this is an opportunity for both of you to spend some quality time together away from laptops, TV sets, PDAs and microwavable meals.
And if you are single, who knows? Maybe you can have your own countryside fling like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday. Cooking courses are no longer just for your mum and auntie either, with organisations such as Slow Food spreading the word about good, clean and fair food and taste education. Even Michelin star chefs like Raymond Blanc open events in organic farms and gardens these days. And, Liz Hurley has jumped on the farm life wagon, coming out with her own range of organic snacks produced on her farm in Gloucestershire. The range features a mini cartoon of Liz in a sexy LBD and pink wellies! Farm life galore!
