As ever, the crowds at London Fashion Week were full of chic, fashionable and sometimes eccentricly dressed folk. From classic looks to outlandish attire- the designers, bloggers and stylists I bumped into at London Fashion Week certainly showed how the British streets are some of the most stylish in the world. Beautiful Soul is off to the V&A
Beautiful Soul’s eagerly awaited collection ‘Miss Butterfly’ will be available at the prestigious Victoria &Albert Museum from Spring/ Summer 2010. The eco luxury fashion label is currently in the spotlight now that the world’s largest museum of art and design has decided to feature its newest collection in its very fashionable gift shop. Eleni Sardi writes.
The V&A is famous for exhibiting fashionable dresses, jewellery and accessories from the 17th century to the present day. It boasts one of the biggest collections of fashion costumes on display, including items of contemporary designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Chanel, Givenchy and Christian Lacroix.
Beautiful Soul sees the collaboration with V&A as a step in the right direction pushing ‘responsible’ fashion forward into the mainstream.
Inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, the highly exclusive ‘Miss Butterfly’ collection is produced from the finest vintage Japanese (dating back to the 1940’s) and saris, Ahimsa peace silk, Fair-Trade organic jacquard, handloom cotton, and bamboo jersey.
Embellishments and accessories are hand-made by a small cooperative (Umdoni Creek) that Beautiful Soul helped set up in South Africa in 2008 and feature indigenous upcycled materials and fabric remnants, providing a solution to ‘zero’ waste.
The collection’s silhouettes are directional, yet timeless and echo femininity, with each style being developed carefully throughout the design process.
In September 2009, Beautiful Soul debuted at London Fashion Week’s Estethica ,and showcased at the Interstoff Asia, Hong Kong promoting sustainable fashion design.
Beautiful Soul will be showcasing at the Clothes Show Live, with the support of Fashion Capital, in December 2009 and is a finalist of Fashioning the Future 2009 (Centre for Sustainable Fashion).

A host of designers from Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen to Chanel and Stella McCartney have donated coveted items from their collections for the ‘Gladrags & Handbags’ sale organised this month in aid of the Kids Company charity. Eleni Sardi writes.
Following the success of last year’s ‘Rumble in the Jumble’ sale, hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, this year’s event is set to be even bigger with some of the fashion world’s biggest names offering to donate pieces. Shoppers will be able to sift through items from Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Armani, Hugo Boss, Donna Karan, Chloe, Tom Ford and Luella, to name but a few.
‘Gladrags & Handbags is set to be a three day fashion sale featuring womenswear, menswear and accessories from leading designers at affordable prices.
Proceeds will go into funding a magical Christmas Day party for over 2,000 children in need.
Kids Company provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. The charity’s founder and director, Camila Batmanghelidjh, says: ‘We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the fashion community and hope that shoppers will flock in droves to bag a bargain at the sale. By buying once you give twice and each purchase will help restore joy and dignity to a child.’
As Camila adds, the Christmas Day party funded by the proceeds includes, ‘transport to and from the event, lunch, games and entertainment, as well as presents for every child. We also produce food hampers to ensure no-one goes hungry over the Christmas period and employ duty workers to be on 24 hour call so that no child feels completely alone.’
The event will be hosted in the Music Rooms in Central London and the admission is £2.00 on the door.
Opening times:
Friday 13 November 9am-7pm
Saturday 14 November 10am-5pm
Sunday 15 November 11am-4pm

If you’re keeping up with the AW trend of thick knotted knits wrapped, bunched and swaddled around you, a touch of seductive delicacy is needed to break up those heavy swathes of wool. Chanel’s fingerless lace gloves provide just this. They are a complete style contradiction, which makes them all the more beguiling; totally sexy but also unmistakably pure. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
Lace has had a dappling effect across the catwalks this season, from black lacy underwear worn as outerwear at Dolce & Gabbana to John Galliano’s mad mix of gothic lace-girlie burlesque designs. But all over lace can be too much and needs something softer or plainer to really make it shine. One of the key pieces of the season, the boyfriend blazer, with OTK knee boots or skinny jeans would work best with the sleeves rolled up to reveal an enticing laced-up wrist. These vintage gloves have the fingers intact, so if you want to rock the Chanel look, get the tips chopped off.

The bidding starts at a fantastic £1.99. Auction ends 28/10/09 so there’s still time to decide on that provocative accessory for your winter blazer.

Karl Lagerfeld designs a country themed collection for Chanel.
The fashionistas have flooded to Paris this week for what is arguably the most anticipated of all the fashion weeks. New York is sleek, London is directional, Milan is glamourous and Paris is high fashion at it’s most concentrated. Karl Lagerfeld’s latest collection for power-fashion-house, Chanel, took everyone by surprise with its agricultural, environmental references. Amiee Jones writes.
Lagerfeld’s creations are usually directed at the most conscientious of dressers. Three years ago, he dubbed canadian model, Daria Werbowy ‘the girl of the moment,’ his other muses including Keira Knightly, and most recently, Lily Allen. Yet, he claims his latest offering was designed with agricultural workers in mind. Although, they may struggle to harvest their crops wearing the sky high clogs slipped onto the models’ feet.
The designers’ uniform of tailored black clothing with a high collared white shirt, black sunglasses and leather gloves was even given a country twist by way of some cowboys boots, replacing his usual dress shoes. “I’m from the country darling,” he joked whilst standing against one of the shows key props; a haystack.
Celebrity guests at the show, including Rihanna and Prince watched the models stride around the wooden barn set from seats made to look like huge hay bales. The set was certainly impressive and couldn’t have communicated the country theme any better.
Interestingly, the influential designer seems to be on the side of environmentally-friendly fashion, so long as it doesn’t compromise on luxury.
He stated: “I hear all this talk about organic farming and the environment and I’m all for it, but there must be a certain sophistication, so its not used as an excuse to let things go to seed.”
