Daily eBay – Floral dress

November 13, 2009 by Maria Kaski · Leave a Comment

The SS10 catwalks proved that florals will be fluttering their way into our wardrobes next season. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
Erdem’s new collection of neat little floral designs, with cinched in waists and short, slightly rounded sleeves has been received extremely well and is a lovely early spring contender. Flowing chiffon floral examples are also making themselves known, in the form of 3.1 Phillip Lim’s gorgeous Grecian style dresses. But that doesn’t mean we have to wait until next March to flaunt our floral groove. This beautiful fuchsia pink and black dress from the early 1990s has an all-year round quality; a sexy, head turning summer choice with tanned legs and simple accessories or a striking evening look with thick black tights and even thicker black shoe boots or wedges. During winter you can get away with over accessorising, so include a skinny black or pink patent leather belt and an eye catching clutch to complete your blooming goddess look.
Bidding for this pretty and elegant frock starts at £50 and the auction ends 21/11/09.

Daily eBay – Vintage 1960s Camel Coat

October 29, 2009 by Maria Kaski · Leave a Comment

There are few pieces that can carry themselves from season to season, year to year and from catwalk to high street. Some of the top contenders include the LBD, the white shirt and the trench coat. An equally established piece is the camel coat. It may be less talked about but has always maintained a solid presence on catwalks. MaxMara is still reinventing the classic style, from slouchy, broad shoulders in the 1980s to the silky soft trench dressing gown styles seen at LFW this year. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
This vintage take on the coat strays somewhat away from the original simplicity favoured by MaxMara and Jill Sander. A slice of the 1960s Mod culture, with a faux fur trim at the hem, cuffs and collar, this vamped up alternative makes for a classy evening coat and because of the chocolate and honey camel blend it will go with a good choice of colours and styles. The dark panel down the front echoes the shorter panelled camel coats seen at Proenza Schouler this year, worn with charcoal grey roll necks and black leather gloves.

Daily eBay – Vintage white lace gloves

October 28, 2009 by Maria Kaski · Leave a Comment

If you’re keeping up with the AW trend of thick knotted knits wrapped, bunched and swaddled around you, a touch of seductive delicacy is needed to break up those heavy swathes of wool. Chanel’s fingerless lace gloves provide just this. They are a complete style contradiction, which makes them all the more beguiling; totally sexy but also unmistakably pure. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
Lace has had a dappling effect across the catwalks this season, from black lacy underwear worn as outerwear at Dolce & Gabbana to John Galliano’s mad mix of gothic lace-girlie burlesque designs. But all over lace can be too much and needs something softer or plainer to really make it shine. One of the key pieces of the season, the boyfriend blazer, with OTK knee boots or skinny jeans would work best with the sleeves rolled up to reveal an enticing laced-up wrist. These vintage gloves have the fingers intact, so if you want to rock the Chanel look, get the tips chopped off.

The bidding starts at a fantastic £1.99. Auction ends 28/10/09 so there’s still time to decide on that provocative accessory for your winter blazer.

Celebrities back Fit for a Princess eBay initiative

October 26, 2009 by Maria Kaski · Leave a Comment

Over 30 dresses donated by celebrities are currently on auction on Ebay to benefit the Princess Alice Hospice. Lucie Goulet writes.
Among the garments auctioned are a Max Azaria draped cream dress from Shilpa Shetty, an Alberta Ferretti sequined number from Helena Bonham-Carter, a George Chakra jacket from Dame Helen Mirren and a full-length black dress from Hobbs worn by Samantha Cameron.
As well as raising money, the project, named Fit for a Princess, hopes to educate the public about the key role of the Princess Alice Hospice. To that end, each auction page includes detailed information on the charity work and its funding. The Hospice provides specialist end of life and palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, both at the Hospice and in their homes in South West London and Surrey.
Each garment will come with authentication, often in the form of signed photographs. Some celebrities further personalised their donation. According to Emma Chenery, the event organiser, “Joanna Lumley has written a delightful letter explaining where she wore the dress, and how when wearing the outfit Roger Moore and Daniel Craig kissed and hugged her. Lynda Bellingham sent a Gok Wan book following a specific request by the charity for the dress she wore on the Fashion Fix show on Channel 4”.
Prior to the start of online bidding, the dresses were exhibited at the Bentall Shopping Centre ( HYPERLINK “http://www.thebentallcentre-shopping.com/events/157-Fit-for-a-Princess-fashion-exhibition.cfm” http://www.thebentallcentre-shopping.com/events/157-Fit-for-a-Princess-fashion-exhibition.cfm) in Kingston.
Chenery hopes to raise £5000. A reserve has been put on each piece, meaning that they should at least sell for a total of £1700. The Hospice heavily relies on operations like Fit for a Princess. “Yearly costs are in excess of £7 million and 75% of funding must come from community donations and fundraising,” explains Chenery.
The auctions end at 8pm on October 29th.

Daily eBay – Black leather batwing dress

Now that winter has firmly made its crisp introduction, wearing the deepest of blacks and greys shouldn’t be a style to shy away from. Chunky, thick, baggy and strong pieces are eclipsing the catwalks, and just as ebony blacks carry that boundless sense of dominance, leather is finding its way into different pieces and not just limiting itself to the jacket. Mandy Barder picks today’s Daily eBay.
The high neckline keeps the style of this dress chic with a matching high waist skirt attached to the batwing top. We’ve seen Karen Millen take the leather dress to its entirety, in both a bandeau form and with short puff-ball sleeves. But this leather-cotton mix is a fresh and softer take on a harder look. The leather cuffs and loose neckline add to its futuristic Matrix-style appeal and the slash at the back is a cheeky feature to glam up the look. The hem line isn’t too short, so it gets away with high black or red stilettos.
The bidding starts at £9.11 approx and is from the US. Auction ends 23rd October so get in there in time for an uber stylish Morticia Addams look this Halloween.

Daily eBay – Iconic designer water bottles

October 8, 2009 by Maria Kaski · Leave a Comment

Premium bottled water company, Ty Nant, is one of the most iconic water bottles in history. Its colbalt blue, glass bottles are used around the world at luxury venues, events and even on television sets. This month, the brand is joining forces with designers including Ben de Lisi, Justin oH, Elspeth Gibson and Hamish Morrow, as well as Nails Inc to get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the Pink Ribbon Foundation. Amiee Jones writes.
The project includes auctioning off some customised bottles on eBay’s charity site, the designers putting their creative skills to charitable use by painting eye-catching art work onto the glass bottles using nail polish provided by leading label, Nails Inc.
Justin oH’s design features large, asymmetrical crosses in different colours, Ben de Lisi’s is a more traditional, floral creation. Elspeth Gibson’s bottle is festooned with bursts of pink flowers and stuck on crystals and Hamish Morrow’s uses pink, yellow and green nail polish that drips messily down the glass curve of the bottle. Use the bottles as kooky vases round the house, or collect all the designs and display them together.
A special pink edition of their signature bottles has also been created to sell at their usual stockists, 1p from the sale of each bottle over the next six months being donated to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
Initially stocked at London’s top hotels in 1989, the brand’s reputation has only grown with time. The recognisable, blue glass bottles have been used as props on TV shows such as Sex & the City, The O.C and Smallville.
Auctions will begin on October 13th on eBay’s sister charity site. Be sure to jot the date in your diary to get your hands on one of these limited edition pieces.

Daily eBay – Vintage 80s suede clutch bag

September 25, 2009 by Maria Kaski · 1 Comment

No wardrobe is complete without a collection of elegant clutch bags, and even when one’s closet is fit to burst, there’s always room for one more little bundle of joy. Amiee Jones picks today’s Daily eBay.
There’s nothing more chic than carrying a small yet perfectly formed bag, that unlike more cumbersome models, don’t take away from an outfit.
The classic clutch comes in all manner of shapes, sizes and finishes, this vintage eighties piece being a fabulous find. The pastel colours are delicately feathered onto the suede to create a dreamy watercolour effect, reminiscent of expressionist paintings.
The bag is given structure by it’s glinting gold frame, and is lined with immaculate black and gold silky fabric. It fastens with a discreet and convenient magnetic popper, meaning quicker and easier make-up touch ups.
Pair this unique bag with a white dress and grecian style plaited hair during the summer, for a modern take on a classic screen goddess look. The soft colours will work wonderfully against white jersey with lashings of gold jewellery to set it off.
A gorgeous addition to any bag collection, this clutch is the stuff of vintage dreams.
The bid is currently at £9.99, the auction ends on 30th September.

I personally love today’s item. Really love it. It’s an emerald green polo chair designed by Robin Day in 1975 and manufactured by Hille. It’s a great Twentieth Century design piece and would look fab on its own or alongside a mix of other styles in your home.

The seller says that the chair is in excellent original condition with no damage and only minor domestic use to the seat surface. It would suit indoor and outdoor use.

You’ll have to get in quick as bidding ends at 18.29 today. The latest bid is £10.50. The seller is offering to deliver locally (Birmingham-based) though would prefer a pick-up. Postage woud be about £15, he says.
