Vicki Sarge for Made in Vogue

The recycled necklaces made by Vicki Sarge, one half of jewellery duo Erikson Beamon, in collaboration with Made, have been gracing the pages of Vogue. Mandy Barder writes.
With eclectic ranges designed by influential names such as Pippa Small, Jamie Rubin, Peaches Geldof and Natalie Dissel, this latest collaboration marks another landmark move in ethical jewellery.
The ‘Vicki Sarge for Made’ collection is Sarge’s first collaboration with the brand in creating distinctive costume jewellery. Sarge’s striking African influenced designs were made using recycled materials, including bottle tops, metal, glass and beads made out of recycled paper and rubber.
Made focuses on producing exquisite pieces that are sourced and created by people living in disadvantaged areas in East Africa in a bid to reduce the poverty there. Local artisans in East Africa receive training from Made to develop their skills and to create fair positions and salaries for them. They refer to this as a ‘trade not aid’ ethos as a way to tackle poverty and encourage craftsmen and women to lead more secure and happier lives.
The pieces start at £60 and are available from the Made website www.made.uk.com.
