Top designers and Erin O’Connor support eco fashion show
November 10, 2008 by Sarah Woodhead
On the same day that UK designer Katharine Hamnett anounced that ethical fashion is “the future of fashion” and Orsola de Castro, curator of Estethica at London Fashion Week, declared London the eco fashion capital of the world, a bevvy of hotly watched designers took to the catwalk.
With an audience made up of the great and good in eco style, including model Erin O’Connor, models strutted the length of the stage – at the grand finale of Ethical Fashion Day at the V&A yesterday – as though this was the elite catwalks of London, Paris, New York or Milan. And every reason too, given the quality and desirability of the clothes on show.
On show were collection highlights from Ducette Duvall, Noir, Junky Styling, From Somewhere, Amana, Ciel and Gary Harvey, amongst others. Shoes and accessories came from Beyond Skin, Terra Plana and new designer Nina Dolcetti.
My favourite outfit was a stunning black patchwork dress by Antony Knight (sorry not to have a piccie), the texture, structure and three-dimensional quality of which really will make you rethink the concept of patchwork.
Good job I loved this striking chartreuse shift dress from Amana too! We’ve got a piccie of that (above). See those handbags in the pic here? They’re by Ecoist and they’re made from thousands of recycled sweet wrappers.
Meanwhile, Junky Styling set off the most camera flashes with its “I can’t believe that was an old suit jacket” dresses, skirts and corsets (pictured).
Noir finished off the show with a stunning 100% certified silk dove grey full-length draped gown. Wow.
