Top 10: Natural remedies to keep your family healthy

February 16, 2009 by Clare Saxon

Let the Summer sniffles be one trend you won’t be following and dip into herbal remedies to keep energy sucking bugs at bay. Alexa Brown has studied everything natural in the world of herbal remedies and gives us a run down of alternative health boosters that will help you and your family stay fighting fashion fit.

Alexa writes: February is always a difficult time to stay happy and healthy-looking because the ongoing cold weather, rain and a lack of sunlight can leave us looking pale and dry-skinned. The awful weather shows no signs of letting up and there seem to be endless bugs and viruses going around. Thankfully there are numerous ways we can help ourselves and you won’t have to take any nasty medicine or stay in bed for days watching soaps you didn’t even realise existed. Here are my top ten natural remedies* for Winter times to keep you looking beautiful and fresh for Fashion Week.

1. Echinacea
Echinacea is a wonderful herb for fighting off colds and flu. It helps the immune system work more efficiently, and can help reduce the length and severity of a cold or virus once it has developed. It is available in tablet or liquid form, and is particularly efficient when taken alongside Vitamin C. So drink plenty of delicious Fairtrade orange juice with it!

*Of course you must always check with your doctor before taking any herbal remedy however natural they are, because they can effect other subscription drugs. For example St. John’s Wort has been known to stop the contraceptive pill working, so if in doubt ask the doc.
