Tried & Tested: Fairtrade Beer

March 3, 2010 by George Walker

Ginger Pale AleIn the name of Fairtrade Fortnight which began on 22 February, we thought it only right to make sure that we had suitable beer stocked in the cupboard. There are now many options for the fair trade beer lover, from light lagers to deep, dark ales. George Walker has tried and tested the best fair trade beers for you (the lucky thing!)

Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the world, with countries across the globe finding their own unique twists on that malty, refreshing taste. Because it’s so popular, however, beer has also become big business, which has resulted in some companies providing unfair pay and dangerous working conditions for those involved in the production of beer overseas.

Fortunately, you can make a difference to the industry while enjoying your favourite beverage by choosing one of the many fair trade beers on the market. So, let’s make Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote, “Beer is proof that God loves us and want us to be happy”, true once again. (Although drink too much, and you may not believe Mr Franklin the next morning!)
