Tried & Tested – Organic & Fairtrade Chocolates

With Chocolate Week 2009 in full swing, we undertook the selfless task of tasting the best organic chocolates. Maria Kaski and her tasting team sample ethical chocolate delights.

1. Askinosie: San Jose del Tambo, Ecuador 70%

It is a rare pleasure to find a chocolate bar with just three ingredients: Cocoa beans, cocoa butter and pure cane sugar. This award winning bar by Askinosie boasts a raw and unadulterated flavour. The soft aromas contrast with the dry chalkiness inevitably accompanying a low cocoa butter and high cocoa bean content. The rustic packaging adds to the delight of this chocolate.
