Yummy mummy alert: natural pregnancy skincare

Stretchmark stress
Yes, of course a little thing like stretchmarks should mean nothing when you’re representing Mother Earth but hey, vanity is not always a bad thing.
“Shea butter oil is fantastic for the skin as it contains vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids. It also has mild anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is a very good preventative for stretch marks,” says Laura.
Star Khechara recommends: “Sheabutter is a nourishing plant fat from an African tree and has been used for years as a stretchmark preventer. Sheabutter Cottage sells a natural fairtrade version, £7.75 for 200g.
Dry skin dilemma
Your skin type can change according to seasons, stress, diet, and of course during pregnancy so just change your skincare regime and products to match.
”The skin does change during pregnancy, sometimes it blossoms and sometimes it can be problematic,” says Star.
“For dry scaly skin use cold-pressed organic coconut oil (available from most health food shops), which is also good on those stretchmark prone areas!
“Skin can become extra sensitive during this time so see it as nature’s way to alert you from using harmful irritating products. Try bathing with herbs and oats rather then harsh soaps and avoid anti-persprants and chemical scents too.”
We recommend:
The Holistic Beauty Book by Star Khechara, £12.95 from Green Books
Jo Wood Organics Amka Body Oil, £34.36 for 175 ml
S.O.S lifesaver moisturising bath oil, £21.95 for 200 ml from Barefoot Botanicals
